Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera is one of those stars, who started her way to the world popularity in the childhood. While ordinary children attended school, Christina took part in various music competitions. Her vocal talent was judged on its merits. Like other future pop-stars, Christina participated in a popular program «The Mickey Mouse Club» (1993-1994). Recording of the song «Reflection» for the well-known cartoon «Mulan» (1998) was her first notable success. Later on, she signed a contract with a record company and released her first single «Genie in a Bottle» (1999) and then – «What a Girl Wants». In spite of a constant comparison with Britney Spears, Christina took her own niche in the pop-music world. The first album Christina Aguilera (1999), and the next two albums – the album in Spanish titled Mi Reflejo (2000) and the Christmas album My Kind of Christmas (2000) made Christina Aguilera a world star.
One of the bright periods in Christina’s musical work is a song «Lady Marmalade» (2001) recorded for the film «Moulin Rouge» together with Lil’ Kim, Mya, Pink, and Missy Elliot. The talent of all singers and images of easy virtue girls, which they played in the video to this song, brought «Lady Marmalade» the world success. After Christina tried a new image of a sexy girl, in her fourth album Stripped (2002), she appeared before her talent’s admirers in the absolutely new image contrasted with her appearance at the beginning of her career. Her new style could be called provocative and aggressively sexual. A romantic and shy girl turned into a vamp girl. A single «Dirty» became super-popular, also due to the expressive sexuality of the video clip. The second single from this CD, titled «Beautiful», became the world hit also. Christina kept on surprising her fans – an album Back to Basics (2006) was performed in a style that was absolutely new for Christina. This time she decided to return to the music, which was popular in America in the 20s, 30s, and 40s of the XXth century, giving it a new sounding. And Christina won. Singles «Ain’t No Other Man», «Hurt», and «Candyman» provided the album with the world recognition. Retro album was nominated for Grammy in three categories at one time.
In 2010, Christina, keeping on experimenting with various styles and musical directions, released an album Bionic. As opposed to the previous album, Bionic was full of the ultramodern sounding. Critics’ viewpoints of Christina’s experiment in electric pop-music are controversial. The first single from this album was a track «Not Myself Tonight». The next ones were «Woohoo» (featuring Nicki Minaj) and «You Lost Me».
