Paulina Rubio

Mexican actress, singer and model Paulina Rubio began her journey to music career at the age of five, when her parents enrolled her for singing, acting, and jazz lessons. At the age of seven she was asked to perform with other children from the Center for Art Education and at the age of 10 she oficially started her music career, becoming a member of popular band Timbiriche, with which she recorded eleven albums.

Solo career of the singer began in 1992, when twenty-year old Paulina in association with Latin branch of EMI released her debut album «La Chica Dorada» which became her trademark and even nickname (la chica dorada means «golden girl») for years to come. «La Chica Dorada» successfully rocked Latin America and yielded three singles which later entered Latin charts of the USA: «Mio», «Sabor a Miel» and «Amor de Mujer».

Next album «24 Kilates» (1993), despite selling one hundred and fifty thousand copies in first two weeks, caused a buzz only in Mexico – song «Nieva, Nieva» brought the singer the first in her career top chart position among singles. Albums «El Tiempo Es Oro» (1995) and «Planeta Paulina» (1996) followed up, supporting the singer’s popularity, but had no special contribution to her development as a musician. «Planeta Paulina» marked a turning point in singer’s life: she was drawn into legal proceedings with EMI Music, terminated her contract and left music stage for four years, trying her hand in various undertakings unrelated to her profession.

Album «Paulina» (2000), recorded under Universal Music, became a triumphant comeback. It was the first album of the performer made for international stage, and it was this album that was certified platinum – four times in Mexico and eight times in the USA. In addition to this, Paulina is also known for her singles «Lo Haré Por Ti», «El Ultimo Adios», «Y Yo Sigo Aquí» and «Yo No Soy Esa Mujer».

Two years later the singer decided to release even more «American-friendly» album called «Border Girl». It was the first singer’s album where most of the songs were written in English. Due to quite average promo campaign the album didn’t cause the desired buzz in radio rotations, and only single «Don’t Say Goodbye» made it to the top, becoming the most successful Paulina’s single in English and paving her the way overseas.

«Pau-Latina» (2004) followed the successful trend, releasing single «Te Quise Tanto» which got the status of the most successful single for the whole singer’s career. On the wave of her popularity the singer was even invited to host the Latin America MTV Awards show.

«Ananda» (2006) confirmed the fact everyone was surmising – Paulina came to American market for the long haul. Album hit Latin-American and American charts again and reached #25 in the Best of The Best Top-200 in the USA. About that time the singer started opening up new horizons, being a businesswoman and supporting charity projects. «Ananda» let the singer gradually get her own niche, and next two albums Gran City Pop (2009) and Brava! (2011) confirmed it. They were promoted outright thanks to singer’s popularity and didn’t top charts, but still paid steadily.
