Selena Gomez is one of promising well stars of American scene and film industry known not only as a singer and actress but also with her acting in the sphere of charity. A young girl, born in 1992, is the youngest goodwill ambassador of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) at present, combining development of her career with aiding to children in need.
A young star started as an actress, having passed the casting on the "Disney Channel" at the age of 12. She continues acting in films that, however, doesn't prevent her from perfecting her musical talents. She plays the drums and sings rather well, being a member of the group «Selena Gomez & the Scene» formed in 2008. In September 2009 the group released their debut album under the title «Kiss & Tell» that turned out rather successful and started from the 9th position in the Billboard chart. Compositions of the album were made generally in pop-rock style with elements of dance music and, on the whole, critics concurred that it was not a bad start as for a newcomer group. That was acknowledged a year after when «Kiss & Tell» was certified gold and Selena Gomez herself was convinced once and for all that it is quite possible for even a young girl to combine film career with music.
A year after the release of the first album, in September 2010 «Selena Gomez & the Scene» recorded their second studio album. «A Year Without Rain» turned out even a more successful project than the previous disc, immediately reached a number-four on the American Billboard chart. If the group's first album was orientated, in general, to teenagers and youth then «A Year Without Rain» was notable for more serious, «adult» sounding with elements of reggae and dancehall. Musical experts unanimously acknowledged that this album was much more better than the previous one, with more powerful musical part and more completed, distinct texts. The lead single of the album – the song under title «Round & Round» anticipated the release of the disc in summer 2010 and entered the Top 30 of singles in the Billboard Hot 100.
In summer 2011 Selena Gomez and her group released the third album entitled «When the Sun Goes Down». Some of critics think it is the best musical work that was created with participation of Selena Gomez, and assert that with every new album the young actress and singer has become more «adult» and perfected her skills. According to the most of critics, that is just thanks to Selena that the group «Selena Gomez & the Scene» managed to score a success as the singer excelled her companions-in-arms in musical talents.
At present, while numerous fans of Selena's music are waiting for her next album, the singer and actress continues to conquer the filmland, participating in creation of blockbusters and dubbing animated personages.
