Alejandro Sanz
In spite of the fact that he dreamt to be a shoemaker during his early childhood, a talented Spanish singer and composer recorded his debut album when he was 16. However, it could not be called a real start of the music career. The musician’s first record and his public recognition were separated in time by years, during which he improved his mastery and dreamt about a big stage.
His first really successful debut with an album Viviendo Depris took place in 1991. It included some songs that were rejected earlier by record companies. At last, they became real hits in the musician’s home country and the album itself turned to be a sort of Alejandro’s pass to the world music arena. The musician signed a contract with Warner Company. His way to the glory began with an album Si Tú Me Miras, later – with an album ‘3’ and following records, which were greeted with admiration by the public both in the musician’s home country and beyond it.
In 1997, after recording his new album Mas, Alejandro Sanz won Amigo and Ondas Awards, and became the best singer and composer, and won an award for The Best Album of the Year. But the most remarkable event in his striking career was Platinum Europe Award, which he earned when sales of his album Mas overtopped 2 million copies in Europe.
By 2000, after recording next two albums, Alejandro Sanz had become one of the best selling singers in Spain that was announced during World Music Award Ceremony. By this time, he had already had several prestigious Grammy Awards (including Latin ones). They included The Best Singer and The Best Album, he sold millions of copies and the world stars, who liked Spanish motives, dreamt to make a record with Alejandro. In 2005, Shakira managed to do that and their joint single “La Tortura” became a popular European hit.
In total, Alejandro Sanz sold more than 25 million copies of his albums worldwide, he made a video clip with the famous folk-rock band The Corrs from Ireland and several own videos. Alejandro’s last studio work, titled El Tren De Los Momentos, was released in 2007 and, as just the rest albums, had a great success among his work’s fans.
Music critics and journalists believe that Alejandro Sanz is one of the few Spanish language singers, who can gather the full stadiums of admired fans at his concerts. The phenomenon of Alejandro Sanz’s popularity can be explained, first of all, by his hard work and multisided activity of the musician, whose talent and abilities can not be overstated. And those, who were not lucky to be present at Alejandro’s concerts, can judge them by concert videos and audio records.
