Bryan Adams
Canadian rock musician Bryan Adams dreamt about music from the childhood. In teenage years he worked part-time, performing with different bands, and started solo career when he was twenty.
The debut album of the singer titled «Bryan Adams» was released in 1980. It didn’t become very popular, though created some new opportunities for him and let arrange a small tour in colleges and clubs, attracting attention to the star-to-be. One can safely say that it was «Bryan Adams» that paved way to upcoming breakthrough called «You Want It You Got It». The album was released in 1981 and put the performer on music map, determining his style and direction once and for all.
Two years later financial breakthrough followed – album «Cuts Like a Knife» won over both Canadian and American audiences and was certified platinum. The album entered the top ten of albums and received several awards. «Cuts Like a Knife» owes its success largely to singles «Straight from the Heart», «Cuts Like a Knife» and «This Time».
«Reckless» (1984) not only repeated the success of the previous one, but also beat it becoming one of the greatest achievements in the singer’s career. It topped the charts and received brilliant status. Against popular «Reckless» the next album of the performer- Into the Fire (1987) – seemed plain and average. In many ways it was Adam’s fault, because at the moment of album release he was completely satisfied only with two tracks recorded while working on the previous one. The most popular singles from the album were «Heat of the Night» and «Hearts on Fire».
«Waking Up the Neighbours» (1991) fixed the situation, rocking just as well as «Reckless». The album presented a number of hits headed by «(Everything I Do) I Do It for You» which became one of the most popular songs in the world. Bryan Adams set off on tour in support of the album and was so popular in some places that tickets were sold out in minutes. «Waking Up the Neighbours» was also certified brilliant in Canada and multi-platinum in the USA and Europe.
Another multi-platinum album – «18 til I Die» (1996) – also turned to be a success, but was cut to pieces by critics and fans who spotted slapdash in usually serious approach of the performer to songwriting. It was Adams’ last album to get platinum status in the USA. «On a Day Like Today», released in 1998 on the background of fading interest of the audience and failed promotional campaign, was far more popular in singer’s home country and in Europe. The album is known for singles «On a Day Like Today» and «When You're Gone» performed with Mel C.
«Room Service» (2004) also didn’t fix the situation. Despite three million copies sold worldwide it failed to attract new listeners. Critics gave rather average reviews – they said, Adams decided not to risk and release a compilation of «safe» songs, resembling his early works. Similar destiny awaited his last current album «11», because many people claimed that the author fell victim to his own clichés.
