Ramon Ayala from Puerto Rico, better known by his stage name Daddy Yankee, became famous not only for his striking appearance and a good vocal. Today he is one of the most popular recording artists in a very specific style Reggaeton.
Reggaeton is an original combination of hip-hop and reggi, which is rather popular in countries of Latin America as well as in Europe and USA. It perfectly combines sounding of Jamaican and techno-music typical of hip-hop rhythms and, as a rule, Spanish recitative. In spite of the fact that English language audience reacts to such music experiments ambiguously, Daddy Yankee won the love not only of Latin Americans.
The musician was born in 1977 and at the age of 17, he married his love. Later, he became a father of three children. After failing to build the baseball career due to an injury he had in his youth, he changed for music. Daddy Yankee’s first record brought him the success – a local audience, which at first he mainly performed before, fell in love with his works. Soon after, he started his rise to the world stage, which lasted 15 years and made the singer popular.
Daddy Yankee won the love of fans worldwide by his spectacular improvisations and ability to cheer the public up. His main listeners are natives of Latin America but his sensational appearance in a wide public left nobody indifferent. Critics noted the artist’s unusual expressiveness and positive energy, and listeners admired his performance and that music style, which Daddy Yankee took out of the crowd.
A lot of his songs became real hits and his texts, which touch upon the most relevant and interesting topics, won the hearts of listeners. Daddy Yankee sings about love, society, friendship, betrayal, and touches on social and political aspects. They say that due to his exclusive vision of the way Reggaeton music must be performed, Daddy Yankee became a real “king” of this style, surpassing its pioneers in popularity. According to the results of 2002, Daddy Yankee’s album El cangri.com was the best selling album of the year in the musician’s home country, and the list of his songs were recognized the classics of the music genre he chose.
In general, every album, recorded by the musician, was finally certified platinum. His famous hit “Gasolina” received the best comments of critics and listeners. It was performed at Lo Nuestro Awards 2005 when Daddy Yankee received a prestigious award for The Album of the Year in Miami. In April of the same year, Daddy Yankee won an award for The Best Reggaeton Album of the Year on Billboard Latin Music. The musician was also nominated for a Grammy Award. In total, he released 10 albums. The release of the last one, titled Mundial, was in 2010.
