Groove Armada
In the mid-90s of the last century, in the rising wave of electronic dance music there was formed a notable English music duo called «Groove Armada» comprising two club DJs - Tom Findlay and Andy Cato. They sure knew how to kindle their audiences with inflammatory funk music. And together they managed to create a fresh, enjoyable and very unconventional musical product that combined both the elements of funk and house.
«Groove Armada» debut album titled «Northern Star» was released in March 1998 on the label Tummy Touch Records. Singles out of it had already managed to catch the fancy of all the fans of these two talented DJs. Despite the fact, that the band's first album did not score a resounding success, however, their next record released a year later was more successful. With the album «Vertigo», released in 1999, the band presented the outstanding examples of house music mixed with elements from other musical genres to their audience. Obviously, being mainstream-oriented, «Vertigo» quickly certified as silver in the UK (and later earned platinum status) and entered the top 20 albums. To this day, it is considered to be one of the best works of British artists in the genre of progressive house.
The year 2001 has pleased «Groove Armada» fans with their third album titled «Goodbye Country: Hello Nightclub». The general public liked its energetic sounding of tracks. One of the singles «Superstylin» even was nominated for a Grammy, although it didn’t receive the award. The fourth album under a title «Lovebox» came less than in a year. This time it featured a new, more dramatic, holistic and ambitious sound. It managed to reach the third position in the American chart of “electronic” records.
Fans were not less willing to buy a series of compilations that followed than they did «Groove Armada» studio albums. A few years since the release of «Lovebox», music duo’s fifth album - «Soundboy Rock» - was released. It consisted of 18 tracks. According to many experts, the track «Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)» was the best song of 2007. All band’s subsequent works were just as entertaining to both the critics and music fans.
Despite the fact, that until now «Groove Armada» have yet to achieve their greatest universal triumph, they remain widely popular wherever this kind of easy-listening, enjoyable and professional electronic music is needed. Their singles became absolute hits at any dance floor in both Europe and America, regardless of the fact that the musicians have defined their style by now and almost ceased to actively experiment with it. Recently it has become known that the release of a new full-length album is confirmed, and numerous fans of electronic music around the world are waiting for this event.
