Pop and R&B singer Jordin Brianna Sparks rose to fame after popular American show «American Idol». The girl, who was only seventeen then, participated in the sixth season and won the grand prize, becoming the youngest winner in the show history.
Jordin’s music career started long before the contest. In teenage years her looks and vocal skills brought the girl a number of awards and prizes. She also often performed the national anthem at sports competitions and sang with performers of religious music.
It took a while for the singer to get in American Idol – she failed the first round of auditions and had to take part in a local competition which eventually let her make another attempt. After the show Jordin signed a contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records and in November 2007 released her debut album «Jordin Sparks». The album reached #10 in American charts and was certified platinum. Critics gave «Jordin Sparks» rather warm reviews, saying it was a great job for the first shot. The album had three singles: «Tattoo», «No Air» and «One Step at a Time».
Working on «Battlefield» (2009) the singer recorded over thirty songs, but only the ones that thematically and musically matched the lead title track made it into the album. This pop and R&B album peaked at #7 in charts in the USA and at #11 in the UK. «Battlefield» showed rather modest selling results. The critics were also close-tongued –many of them thought that the songs on the album fell victims to the lead track and were simply unable to compete with it. To somehow fix the situation, Jordin decided to go on her first tour across the USA.
In 2010 the singer announced she had begun working on her third album, and in the middle of 2011 its first dingle was released, called «I Am Woman».
Apart from her music career, the girl also records movie soundtracks, designs clothing line and supports charity projects.
