Notwithstanding that the pop rock band «Mana» are extremely famous among the listeners of Latin America, they also have fans in North America as well as Eurasia. The creative works of the band are notable for their outstanding originality that combine traditional sounding with characteristic peculiarities of the Latin American music and according to the musicians themselves, they try to make every album dissimilar to all previous ones.
The band was formed in 1985 in Guadalajara and already in 1986 they managed to begin a fruitful official cooperation with a famous label Polygram. The debut album «Mana» was released in 1987 and it was quite a good start as for an unknown musical team. However, their curators insisted on giving the band's sounding a more commercial colour so, musicians spent a lot of time in order to stand up for their original style.
It resulted in a fact that «Mana» had to search for other labels the representatives of which would accept the views of the band's members. In search of an ideal variant, after all, the band signed a contract with Warner Music and guys' affairs, at last, went uphill. Singing their songs in Spanish, «Mana» managed to win the hearts of listeners, having appeared among leaders on the Latin America charts. In 1990 under label of Warner they recorded their second album entitled «Falta Amor» and in October 1992 – the third album «Dónde Jugarán los Niños?» that reached a number-four on the Billboard Chart for Latin albums.
Notwithstanding that in the middle of the 1990s cooperation with Warner came to the end, «Mana» went on performing and recording singles and albums. In 1996 they were nominated for Grammy as «Best Latin Pop Artist» but lost it. Though they managed to reach a number-two on the Billboard Chart of Latin pop albums with the work entitled «Cuando los Ángeles Lloran» that was a serious success as for a Mexican quartet. Having kept working in the chosen direction, the band released several more albums and singles and, after all, they occupied their niche on the Latin American pop-rock scene.
At the beginning of a new millennium the band took a long sabbatical that made their fans a little bit nervous. Intervals between album releases became longer and music lovers began to forget about heartfelt and lyric compositions of «Mana». In 2002, 2006 and 2011 «Mana» returned to the stage after a long break and every time they attracted listeners’' and critics' attention to themselves with new singles, albums and live performances. Perhaps, the band's fans have to accept that their idols work thoroughly and unhurriedly, releasing one full-format album in several years, not seeking after quantity but paying all attention to quality. And it is seen in their recent works that topped the Latin American charts of the USA and some European countries.
