Mariah Carey's success with good reason can be considered as phenomenal. Making herself known for the first time at the beginning of the 1990s, she managed to reach up to summit of glory and even be listed in the Guinness World Records as well as become the best-selling pop singer of a decade. Her unique voice of great range is recognizable from the first words of any song and beautiful lyric ballads won the hearts of millions of listeners of different ages.
Mariah Carey was born in 1970 and since childhood she had been accustomed to music by her parents. A future star began to sing before she was five years old and later she became an author of her own songs. Already at that time Mariah Carey knew that she wanted to devote her life to music, so, as soon as the singer was 17 years old, she went to New York, having fairly believed that in such a big city there were more opportunities for beginning a professional music career.
And success didn't keep her waiting. Having worked for several years on recording and arrangements of her compositions, Mariah, after all, signed a contract with Columbia Records. Already in 1990 the girl had an access to professional studio equipment and recorded her first album entitled «Mariah Carey». Four singles from this album took the first place in turn in the national chart of the USA. Both critics and music lovers of America could not fail to see that there appeared one more star on the bright music horizon. In 1991 Mariah Carey received her first Grammys, having become the best newcomer artist and the best pop female singer of a year. In a year she again managed to score a success with her second album «Emotions» that reached a number-four on the albums chart. Songs from it occupied top positions of the US charts. Mariah's popularity was growing, both her albums were bought with a great enthusiasm and already in 1991 Mariah's debut headed the US albums chart.
In 1993 Mariah Carey married the head of Columbia Records, Tommy Mottola, and a month after the wedding the world saw and heard her third studio album entitled «Music Box» that scored a really deafening success! Ten-times platinum certification and the first lines on almost all charts of America as well as many other European countries were the deserving reward for Mariah's endeavours and talent.
The following years scored the same success in her career so, at last, she dared the first tour, released several more much-talked-of albums and made herself known beyond the borders of the USA. In 1999 she established a record of total time that her singles were at number-one in the national chart, leaving behind legendary "The Beatles". But unfortunately, the life is unpredictable and even the brightest stars can go out in due course. That happened to Mariah Carey at the beginning of a new millennium when her popularity began unexpectedly to go down and new albums and singles were not received by the public with the same delight. Perhaps, it happened because of her separation from Tommy Mottola who, though turned an unknown singer into a star of the world level, nevertheless, could not get used to the fame and publicity of Mariah. Perhaps, there is another reason... In any case, there repeatedly appeared mentions about serious psychological problems of the singer in the printed media and, unfortunately, being out of form, she failed to repeat the triumph of previous years.
In spite of this, Mariah Carey is still one of the most famous and loved performers in Europe and the USA and any of her failures won't be able to cancel all her achievements that she earned during years of her glory. Having married the second time, she seems to acquire the second wind so, millions of her fans are looking forward to return of their idol on the musical star arena.
