Lady Gaga
In spite of the never-ending negative comments towards Lady Gaga, she is one of the most popular recording artists in the music world. Not only her originality, eccentricity and outrageous behavior but her talent help her to be a world star – Lady Gaga is an author of all her songs. Lady Gaga (her real name is Stefani Germanotta) began to show her abilities at an early age. She learnt to play the piano on her own – aurally. Stefani wrote songs and at the age of fourteen she joined the group Bitter End. In 2006, Stefani started working with the producer Rob Fusari. Namely at this time she began to perform under the stage name Lady Gaga. During the year 2007, Lady Gaga performed in clubs of New York along with the singer Lady Starlight. They designed their concert dresses together, and their show was a mix of burlesque and vaudeville. By that time, Lady Gaga had approved herself as an author of very interesting songs. In 2007, she signed with Interscope company and wrote songs for Britney Spears, Fergie, and Pussycat Dolls. During the work at one of the album’s song Lady Gaga’s vocal abilities captured the attention of Akon, who signed her to his own label Kon Live Distribution.
The debut album The Fame was released in 2008. The album received positive reviews of music critics and many prestigious awards (including Grammy Awards) within different nominations. The song «Just Dance» became a title single. This song as well as the second released single «Poker Face» had a great commercial success in many countries. The third, the most popular, single from the first album was «Paparazzi». After returning from the world tour, Lady Gaga released her next album The Fame Monster (2009). The album was not less popular and commercially successful than the previous one. The song «Bad Romance» became a title single of the album. It topped hit parades of such countries as Canada, England, Germany, and Sweden, and reached top three in USA, Australia, and New Zealand. The second single was «Telephone» – a duet with the R&B singer Beyonce, though, at first, the song was recorded for performing with Britney Spears. The song «Alejandro» became the third single instead of planned «Dance in the Dark». Following her own style, Lady Gaga chose the most outrageous images for her performances and made video clips that were criticized by various organizations, which considered Lady Gaga’s venture in her videos unacceptable – including the theme of religion. In spite of controversial and even negative comments, Lady Gaga beat the record of video views on Youtube web-site – she became the first recording artist in the history of Youtube, whose video clips won over billion views in total. The next album of Lady Gaga was Born This Way (2011), which was first presented at the Grammy Awards in February 2011 by the eponymous single «Born This Way». The album’s second and third singles were «Judas» and «The Edge of Glory» respectively.
