Jay Sean
Jay Sean is a British rapper of Indian origin, as well as a songwriter and record producer. His music career started with «One Minute», which was noticed by producer Rishi Rich and, followed by single «Dance With You», finally got the performer a million pounds contract with Virgin Records. Second single «Eyes on You» and third one «Stolen» reached #6 and #4 in charts respectively. At that point the singer realised it was time for an album.
Debut album «Me Against Myself» was released in 2004 and received favourable reviews of the critics who gave the young man credits for his experiments with different music styles of India and Great Britain. The album failed to win over British album charts, but still made quite a splash in India, selling over two million copies and reaching platinum status. Several hundred thousand copies were also sold worldwide.
On the wave of success the performer wanted to start working on the second album, but disagreed on some points with Virgin Records and left the label, starting his own one called «Jayded». After several months of work the album was released as a collaboration of Jayded and 2Point9 Records, and was titled «My Own Way» (2007). It reached #6 in British charts and was certified platinum there. It had two singles «Ride It» and «Maybe» which became very popular in Eastern Europe, Russia and Japan. Following that trend, Jay Sean decided to turn to overseas horizons and signed a contract with American record label «Cash Money Records». First American debut of the performer called «Down», featuring Lil Wayne, straight away got to the highest positions of American NEW charts, which was an unattainable result for British musicians since Freddy Mercury. Following up the success, Jay Sean started working on his third album meant for American audience in the first place. «All Or Nothing» came out in 2009 and included new material alongside with some old songs. The album debuted at #37 in the USA, at #62 in England and at #11 in Japan, becoming the most successful album of the performer in Japan and the most failed one in Great Britain.
In association with Cash Money Records in July 2010 the singer started working on his fourth album «Freeze Time». Singles «2012 (It Ain't the End)», «Hit The Lights» and «Like This, Like That» were released in support of the album. The album itself was scheduled for the next year, but there were unexpected delays, and the release was put off to 2012. Among the guest stars, working on the album, are Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and other famous representatives of hip-hop culture.
